So Cal for a Bit

Went down to cities around LA this weekend with my dad and my sis! My dad had a business seminar to go to, so my sister and I went out while he was there. We ended up visiting the Santa Ana Zoo, since it was close by and we wanted to do something different other than shopping. My sister also had to do a photography assignment.

The Santa Ana Zoo is a cute, little zoo, mainly for families and kids. They had a lot of smaller animals there, like monkeys, lemurs, and birds. It was fun going around. I ended up taking a liking to Golden Lion Tamarins. They’re so cute with their bright orange fur! Emperor Tamarins are cute too; they look like wise monkeys with long mustaches. We also passed by these Silvery Langurs that we noticed were caring for a newborn!, the little orange furball that they’re holding. We also went into a netted area that you could enter with birds and other small animals roaming around. That’s where we saw these lovebirds. :] It was a fun experience. It’s not everyday that we get to see a variety of animals around  and I learned a bunch of small tidbits.

We then had dinner at Ichi Teriyaki Roll, a place I looked up on Yelp. I was trying to look for a Ramen House, but oh well, next time. It was a “hole-in-the-wall,” fast-food style Japanese restaurant.  Affordable, gave you a good amount of food.. The sushi easily fell apart though, when dipped in sauce. Overall good!

Sunday was pretty much spent travelling back. We did get to stop by at Roscoe’s for lunch though. We went to the one, smack dab in the middle of LA. Definitely a change of scenery. o_o I got a classic order of chicken and waffles. I hope I don’t offend anyone, but I thought it was okay, nothing too special though. I think maybe the place got a little too hyped up for me.. But I did get what I came for, I guess.

Art After Dark: SLO

After hearing of my friend’s First Fridays events at San Jose, where they go around town checking out art galleries, I got a little jealous. But at the beginning of this school year, I found out that there’s a similar event that happens here in SLO as well! It’s called Art After Dark and it happens on the first Friday of every month from 6-9 PM. I’m so glad that I was finally able to go!

I ended up going with some good friends that I hadn’t hung out with for a while. It was nice being around their energy again haha. :] I wish I took more pictures. Maybe next time, when we have it a little more planned out. The ones above are from an exhibit called “Phantom Project” and it was one of the ones that we just stumbled into. They had a variety of interesting art pieces there.

We then ended our tour with dinner at Goshi’s. If you haven’t tried it yet, it’s a great Japanese Restaurant located at The Creamery. It gets a little pricey, but they give a good amount of food. This was my second time eating here and I still feel like the deals are worth it for all the different things that come with the combo dinners. We shared a Lychee-flavored sake with the table (only $15!) and I shared the Goshi Dinner Special with my friend (pictured above, Salmon Teriyaki w/ Scallop Roll).

Good impromptu night out! :]

Studygasm won an honorable mention for branding at Startup Weekend SLO! So glad I decided to sign up for it. It’s definitely been really awesome.
Some of the valuable things that I’m taking away from this weekend:
It CAN be done! It’s great to have ideas but you won’t go anywhere if you don’t take the initiative.
Group dynamics definitely play a big part in your success. I was lucky enough to be in a great group, nicely divided and played on our strengths.
Keeping a positive attitude goes a long way too. I went into this weekend not knowing what to expect and started to get scared when I felt like I couldn’t contribute to the group. But I just kept thinking that I’ll just do this for fun, why not? We ended up with a pretty good product by the end of the weekend!
Keep checking! We’re planning on continuing to work on it part time. :D

My weekend workspace!Startup Weekend is almost over and I’m almost sad to see it go by. It’ll have been a crazy 54 hours but a really worthwhile experience. It’s been a blast! :]

November! continues to be awesome

TODAY was so fun and amazing! despite not getting much homework done..

  • free food at work!
  • sold tickets to a faculty staff member and she referred me for a scholarship!
  • watched Whose Live Anyway? at the PAC - hilarious!
  • got to do a quick meet and greet with them afterwards!!! I was so excited meeting Chip that I shook his hand, couldn’t help myself and hugged him, and he spun me around in the green room! lol. ^_^ We freaked out because Steve, one of the promoters, took the picture on his camera and none of our cameras, so we thought we’d lost that picture forever. But turns out they’ll send it to me! Good thing they know me! :D
  • Mom and little sis are here until Saturday!

Yissss that’s whats up.

(props to S.p. Ro for the PCE Modern Affinity sweater!)
Just came back from the first Modern practice of the year! Can’t believe how long it’s been since I first started. I really wish that I kept going at it for all these years. Maybe I wouldn’t have been so out of shape like I was tonight. Looking forward to the good hurt tomorrow morning though.
Met a handful of first years tonight. People actually came really early! Will this be the end of Filipino time? Haha, probably not, but it was great. So many new people to meet and to get to know. I’ve forgotten that for a lot of people, their PCE experience starts with showing up and getting involved with Modern. This might be such a pivotal point in their time in college. Crazy to think that (hopefully) a lot of them will later end up in my place, on their last year, and think about how far they’ve gone. For my first few years, Modern was definitely one of my outlets. It was something that I first dreaded (cus I didn’t know how to dance) that eventually came to be something that I looked forward to. Modern was definitely one of the first places that I grew and where I gained a lot of confidence.
It was really fun to look around and see such a diverse crowd that showed up to learn something new and work towards the same cause. Especially proud of the current coordinators (and all past coordinators) to pull through, work hard to choreograph, and show up at every practice and performance, just for the love of PCE Modern. I hope to be able to come back and still see Modern going strong.

Hello, World!
Just got my new MacBook Air! I’m very excited for my first Mac laptop. Wish my family was home so I could share the excitement, but I ended up opening the package by myself. -_- I hope I learn all the shortcuts soon. I’ve been so used to Windows. Some initial thoughts:- Very impressed by Apple design of the package. You definitely feel like you’re getting something special. :]- Glad they included an extension cord for the charger.- Sort of alarmed at how warm the bottom of the laptop already got with only 15 minutes of use. Hope it doesn’t overheat, but I’d expect more out of a Mac…
Any tips for a new MacBook user? Or any recommended cases/accessories? :]

Start of Summer

  • 06/10 - headed straight back home right after my Friday final for my sister’s high school graduation - Congratulations sis!
  • 06/13 - drove down to SLO w/ my best buds, went to The Cliffs for Happy Hour and bumped into Dr. Webber from Grey’s Anatomy, stopped by BBQ at Balboa, late night yogurt at Yogurt Creations, YouTube videos and the end of Serendipity
  • 06/14 - brunch at Breakfast Buzz for 2for1 burritos, got straw hats at Forever 21 and tanned at Pismo, snacked at Doc Burnstein’s, UTS w/ Ading Kevin, drove by an accident near SLO HS, watched HP 7 Part 1, The Library for 2for1s, Ading Kevin’s 21st Bday bar crawl, Bel Frites, Twin Jeff’s apricot and raspberry beer
  • 06/15 - morning at Waverly, lunch at Firestone’s, dessert at Giordano’s Fruit Freeze (blood orange and mango!), packed up my room, sushi at Shin’s, headed back home
  • 06/16 - Academy of Science Nightlife, late night Genki’s, dancing at Matrix Fillmore
  • 06/17 - Happy Birthday Pops! just had late dinner at IHOP haha

Such a whirlwind first week of summer! But it’ll calm down soon with the start of my internship next week. I learned that I got pretty dark :( and am in desparate need of a haircut.

Can’t believe a week’s already passed by! Having started school earlier in the week, it felt really slow, especially with a somewhat long and hectic schedule, but I survived! I’ve missed one class so far and I’m really trying to challenge myself not to miss any more, unless I know that I can afford to do so.
Already, this quarter is proving to be a busy one. I’m going from sleeping all the time to not sleeping at all (once again). Despite this, I’m getting pretty excited to push myself to do all that I can. I like being able to look back and see how much fun I’ve had and all that I’ve accomplished. The plan is to stay on top of things in school, work, projects, get to know my friends better, and to have new experiences. Grow.
This is a picture from a spot at Shell Beach that we visited last Friday.

Last week, a bunch of us went to hang out at San Francisco ALL DAY. I didn’t realize we would be out there until 10-ish! It was cool to be a tourist. I never walked around Ghirardeli Square before and that was my first time going to Musée Méchanique. It was tiring but it was really fun to walk around SF and just hanging out with friends. :]

Green Tea yogurt with a waffle cookie, mangoes, dark chocolate crisps, mochi, hazelnut crisp, caramel, and honey.
Pinkberry (I think I need to start a Yelp account..) in San Ramon opened up last Friday! (Kuya) Nick and I finally met up after a whole summer living in the same town. GG. Not quite an adventure, but still something new! (Note to self: take better photos. :[)
To anyone needing an update: Nick’s doing really really well, seems like in all aspects. I’m super excited for him and his upcoming ventures! :]
